Voice Acting
The voices of the characters

How to Audition as a Voice Actor

  • Record yourself speaking in character for roughly one minute
  • Make sure your audio is clear!
  • Send your audition file in .mp3 or .wav format or as a link along with a clear statement of intention to become a voice actor to projectcanadia@gmail.com
  • If you have been accepted, you should hear back from us within 48 hours! We may send some comments and constructive criticisms as well.
  • If you have been a VA in the past, you may re-audition. If we are unable to consistently and reliably get in contact with you, we may look for other VAs. If you have been banned from the forum, however, you may not be readmitted to a voice acting position without careful deliberation by the admins.

Voice Actor Requirements

  • Creativity: We are looking for voice actors who are willing to think outside the box when it comes to character interpretation. VAs who are able to adlib and show many aspects of their characters beyond the surface level will stand out and are our priority. Just repeating established canon may be more harmful to your audition than helpful!
  • Sound Quality: Clear recordings are a must as well. Enunciating, minimizing background noise, wearing headphones and editing your sound files in programs like Audacity (free online!) will help us immensely. If we cannot understand you, we cannot accept your audition.
  • Format: There is no one format or script for auditions; you must present your audition in a format that best shows off your voice! We recommend showing us a variety of emotions and a little bit about the personality of the character you are getting into. There is not a set limit on the length of your audition, but we would recommend to keep it short and to the point. We have busy schedules and can only listen to so many auditions!
  • Character Specifics: Certain characters will have more specific requirements. Consult any specific character requirements below before making your audition!
  • Availability: We need to be able to contact you on the forum as well as either through skype, tumblr, twitter, facebook, or by email. You need to be relatively active on the forum to make sure you are aware of what is going on. If your tumblr url changes or changes often, we need to be notified so we can get in touch with you.

Assets

  • Authenticity: You do not have to be from the place you are auditioning for, but having a good accent and regional knowledge definitely helps. Being from the place you audition for does not automatically guarantee you a position, however! For Canadian characters, we will select VAs who have or can convincingly perform a General American accent. (That means yes, you are welcome to audition even if you are American!)  At this time, we are not looking for VAs for other APH countries. Check back for new temporary or full time character opportunities!
  • Background: Historical knowledge is not required but helpful!

Voice Acting for the Project

  • If you are sick, do not try to record! Let us know. Depending on the severity of your sickness, we can postpone the deadline or mobilize your understudy. Do not damage your throat by recording!
  • You are free to record your lines on your own, but we will also hold skype rehearsals and recording sessions before the deadline. If you would like to practice or record with your fellow VAs over skype, we can arrange a time that works! If this does not work for you, other VAs may be willing to send you their recordings to listen to if needed. All you need to do is ask!
  • Your understudy/back up VA is your buddy and is here to save the day when times get rough. They may not get many chances to record, but they are there for you when you get sick or are away and should be treated with great respect.
  • There is no limit to the number of characters you can audition for at this time. Whether you are qualified for the positions you audition for is up to us, but feel free to try your vocal chords at a few different positions. If you voice multiple characters and have trouble with distinguishing your voice, we can mobilize your understudy.
  • Files should be saved as "linenumber_character_episode.mp3" or .wav to make it as easy as possible on the editors to keep track of which lines have been received. For example: "01_Canada_Pilot.mp3". Send your files to projectcanadia@gmail.com .
